If you own a busy health spa and have a commercial washer and dryer, you need them to last as long as possible. If your machines do not work properly, you will not have clean towels for your clients. Without clean towels, your clients may go to another spa for their weekend retreats. To avoid a loss of revenue, you need to care for your equipment.
Here are five maintenance tips that will extend the life of your commercial washers and dryers. With proper maintenance, your washers and dryers can help you cut down on costs, keep customers happy, and even help make your spa profitable.
1. Clean Your Machines Once a Day
If your health spa has clients all day, you need to clean your machines at the close of business each day. Daily maintenance gets rid of the grime that destroys your machines.
Daily washer maintenance should include all areas that you can reach with a damp rag. Wipe down the inside of the washer drum, including the bleach and soap dispensers. When you clean your front-loading washers, wipe the seals with a damp cloth. Do not miss the area under the seal where the soap scum builds up.
Your dryers need cleaning each day as well. Wipe down the exterior of your dryer and remove the lint from the lint trap. Use a microfiber duster and reach deep inside the lint trap to remove the lint that builds up all day.
2. Do Not Go Overboard on the Detergents
If you normally use additional detergent to get your towels clean and sanitary, this can actually harm your machine. Front-loading washers do not require a great deal of laundry detergent. In fact, new high-efficiency commercial washers require less detergent than earlier models.
If you use too much detergent, your washing machine will wear out faster. For best results, always use the right amount of detergent. If you are not sure how much you will need, check in your owner's manual. The manual will explain how much detergent is best for your specific washer.
3. Err on the Side of Larger Wash Loads
While your washer can run smaller loads, your high capacity commercial washing machine will give you better results when you go with larger loads. Larger loads also provide better agitation, which will get your white towels back to their brightest.
4. Avoid Dryer Cool Down Periods
If you are in the habit of letting your commercial dryer cool down between loads, this actually is not beneficial for your dryer. When you allow cool down periods between loads, your dryer needs to work overtime to get back to the proper temperature, which actually extends the dry time for each load.
The continual cool down periods will cause your dryer to wear out faster. Extend the life of your commercial dryer by eliminating the cool down periods between loads.
5. Watch the Washer Door Seals
If you have a front loading commercial washer, pay attention to the door seal. Once the door seal wears out or has soap scum and gunk, your washer will leak. Inspect your door seal at least once a week, and schedule a service call as soon as you notice damage.
